No. 51 Korean Style Tangerine Tea (韓式桔綠茶)

It's getting more and more complicated to find actually cool drinks at my favourite tea shop, but I really like going to Presotea since the people there are always so nice to me. Today, I tried the Korean style tangerine tea and chose the sugar free version. But it is definitely not drinable without any sweetener. So, after I tool some sips I went back to the store to request some sugar. Of course, that was no problem at all. But still, even after adding sugar the tea was rather bitter. I am not sure whether it is because of the green tea or because of the tangerine. I think this drink might be a lot better with a lot of sugar.

No. 50 Almond Milk Tea (杏仁奶茶)

As a celebration for my 50th cup I actually planned on having something really special. But it turned out to be too inconvenient to reach the store I was actually going for. However, when it finally was evening and I haven't had my tea yet, I decided just to try Ching Hsin again in the hope they will have something amazingly crazy cool extraordinary. They didn't really have that. BUT, they have almond milk tea. Since yesterday there is this deep love to almonds, since I tried almond tofu yesterday and instantly fell in love with it. The same happened with this drink. It is not a crazy combination of flavours, but it made me instantly happy. It was the right 50th cup. Warming, welcoming, nice and so delicious. Happy Tiantianyibei everyone!

No. 49 Chinese Date Tea

Today, I ordered at a tea place I have been before starting my project. At that time I didn't like it that much. And today did not really convince me either. That is mainly because, I could not adjust my desired level of sweetness since they already put sweetener in the tea.

When ordering I could read some characters but not all, so I had no idea what I ordered. And since the drink was hot and I got it in a paper cup I had to wait to get home to see what I actually ordered. It turned out to be Chinese date tea. Not one of my favourite fruits, but it wasn't too bad either. Actually, having a sore throat for the last few days, that tea was a nice treat for my throat.

No. 48 Matcha Latte (抹茶拿鐵)

I'm almost through with Presotea's menu but I enjoy going there so much since the staff is so nice. Today we were chatting again and it always makes me so happy, when they recognize me and seem happy to see me. But it seems that the guy preparing my drink didn't pay that much attention to making it, since there was ice in my clearly marked "no ice" cup. And it was pretty sweet as well. But that might be due to the milk as well. I like the matcha latte, but my Japanese friend keeps telling me that it is actually not that great there. But for my european taste it is just good enough.

No. 47 Pinapple Black Tea with Pulp (金鑽鳳梨水果茶)

Today, I didn't have my daily cup of tea until the late evening, since I just wasn't in the mood for tea right after school. That was partly because I am recently a bit bored, since I almost tried all the interesting combinations of my recent favorite tea shop. So, I went for a walk after dinner and found a Coco Tea. I knew that tea shop chain from Shanghai, but back then I didn't really pay much attention to their various tea creations. Looking over the menu, I finally found a combination that I haven't had before and that was pineapple tea. I loved it. Due to the really great amount of topping it made me very happy. What upset me a little, though, was that they used pineapple sirup to create the drink. But I ordered it sugar free, so it wasn't too sweet after all. It was perfectly right.

No. 46 Royal Earl Grey Tea Latte (皇家伯爵拿鐵)

Today was a cold and rainy day, again. So, I ordered a warm earl grey milk tea but got an iced version instead. Maybe my pronunciation was not clear enought. And since the staff is always so nice to me at this tea store, I just went with it. It took my hours to finish this tea, though. Not, because it didn't taste good, just because it was simply too cold. I liked the typical earl grey flavour but after having had so many milk teas it is just another one. I could, however, tell the difference between a latte and a milk tea. This one seemed not to be as creamy as the others. And also, real milk seems rather neutralizing whereas the milk powder usually used for milk teas gives the whole drink a slightly stronger flavour.

No. 45 Charcoal Roasted Oolong Milk Tea + Panda Boba (炭烤烏龍奶茶 + 熊貓珍珠)

What do you drink on a rainy cold day when your stomach urgently needs something to eat? Right, milk tea with boba. And since I haven't had that milk tea before it was my today's choice. Topped with my favourite panda boba. I chose the hot variant to I had to take my drink home to poor it in a glass to take a photo of it. Because hot drinks usually are served in a paper cup. But you can see that there was a lot of boba in my drink. That is great! Sometimes, it even seems that the guy who already knows me for coming to the tea shop almost every day gives me extra boba. But maybe it is just a feeling. When I poured the tea into the glass I first tried the milk tea without boba and I loved it. It is really a nice milk tea.

No. 44 Green Tea Fruit Double Topping (綠茶鮮果雙Q)

What's wrong with me? I really forgot to have a cup of tea yesterday! And today I chose a tea I already had in a very similar style. That is maybe because it bores me a little when I tried like all the funny stuff of one tea place and don't really feel like choosing the mostly bitter plain variants. And I was craving for some tea that I really liked before, so I chose my cup of happiness today, but with green tea instead of oolong. Actually, because of the great amount of toppings in it it doesn't really matter what tea it is.
Actually, I saw a similar composition at another tea shop yesterday, but I just had my breakfast soymilk shortly before going there with some friends, so that I didn't order anything.

No. 43 Salty Cream Oolong Tea

After my classmates kept telling me about this kind of tea, topped with salty cream, I defenitely had to try it. So, I was more than happy discovering a tea store on my way having that kind of tea. There, I had to choose between black, green or oolong tea. Whenever I have this kind of decision, I usually go for the oolong. Today as well. Since I didn't know what kind of saltyness to expect I opted for 30% sugar in the tea. It was great. The cream was really creamy and when I finished my drink it appeared as if butter was stuck to my straw. So, I guess that this kind of tea is not the healthiest option. But it is worth trying! The salty taste is not very strong but it gives the whole drink a very interesting twist.

No. 41 Hawaii Latte (夏威夷拿鐵)

Sorry for not updating for the last two days, but I had some problems with my stomach and the doctor told me not to drink anything cold or with milk. So I decided taking a short break from my project. Today's tea was a milk tea again, Haiwaii style. I still don't know what the Hawaii thing was about, but I really liked that milk tea.

No. 40 Oolong Sencha + Panda Boba (烏龍煎茶 + 熊貓珍珠)

Since Presotea has so many pure brewed teas on their menu, I really need to work them through. But as the pure brewed teas are mostly really bitter and somehow boring, I now started topping them all the way. And Today's oolong sencha, which was bitter, too, got some panda boba. I am really a big fan of panda boba because you get two colors of boba for actually the same price as just one color. And it's black and white. What else do I need to say. Panda boba is the best! The tea was ok. I wouldn't recommend drinking it pure without any sweetener, though

No. 39 Honey Aloe Vera (蜂蜜蘆薈)

Today, tried honey tea, finally. Since, I was always trying to avoid drinks which I cannot reduce in sweetness, but today I was brave enough to try a honey tea. It was, well, sweet. But with the aloe vera as a topping it was a really nice taste. What I found fascinating about today's tea was the colour. It was very light and pure. Usually, when the tea shop mixes the drinks it gets all bubbly, but this one didn't. And I couldn't tell what tea was used for that tea. Maybe a very light green tea.

No. 38 Ginseng Oolong Milk Tea (913奶茶)

Since I was buzzing (or better bussing) around today, I opted for a cup of tea near Taipei 101, since this wasn't the place I actually wanted to go but ended up being at since I took the wrong bus, again. So I went to Tian Ren Tea, a really famous and expensive tea shop. Whenever I go to another tea shop I feel quite nervous ordering drinks, since I don't know the menu yet and have to figure out the characters I know. So I ordered this oolong milk tea. It was the double price of my reguar milk tea. But it was quite good, nothing special, though. What I really liked about it, was the sweet taste afterwards. Really delicate. But when I was reading the menu I took with me later on, I found that they had green tea milk tea with a scoop of matcha ice cream. Why didn't I see that earlier?

No. 37 Panda Bubble Tea (熊猫珍珠奶茶)

Today, I was hungry, again, and learnt from my last days' experience and ordered a nice filling bubble tea. I missed bubble tea. And since I haven't had the presotea's panda bubble tea it was legitimate to order this one. yeay. It isn't anything new, but it has black and white boba. The milktea was sugar free, nothing special, either. But besides all this unspectacularness it was a great drink. Just the way I love it.

No. 36 Genmaicha + Perilla (日式玄米茶 + 小紫蘇)

Today's tea was a Japanese green tea which I never had before but I heard of: Genmaicha. It is green tea which has roasted rice in it, but since they use teabags (?) at Presotea there was no rice in my drink. And since I experienced plain tea being quite bitter I chose perilla as a topping today. I was hoping that it might be in lemon juice or something giving flavour to it, but it wasn't. So, my today's drink wasn't strong in taste, but still wasn't that bad. It just took me some time to get used to the roasted taste. And I guess I shouldn't order plain green tea drinks when I am actually quite hungry. I already felt a little sick yesterday, when I had tea on an hungry stomach. So, plain tea will be on when I had something to eat before. Or I add a more filling topping like Boba or Nata de Coco.

No. 35 Dong Ding Oolong Tea + Aloe Vera Jelly (凍頂烏龍茶 + 蘆薈)

After my yesterday's tea club session with a tea tasting of Taiwan's most famous teas, I had one of those teas today. However, I did not expect the iced tea to have such a high quality as the one I had in the tea tasting. The dong ding tea I had yesterday was a bit bitter, but not as bitter as today's tea drink. With trying another tea everyday I already experienced plain tea being quite bitter, so I usually choose a slightly sweet topping to go with it. Today, I chose aloe vera jelly and that stuff is really a nice topping. It is not as chewy as tapioca pearls and not as hard as nata de coco, but still not too soft. It's taste is not very strong but still somehow refreshing.

No. 34 Oolong Fruit Double Topping (烏龍鮮果雙Q)

Today, I had a headache all day long and really needed something to cheer me up. So I chose this tea and it worked! If you really need something to give you a portion of instant happiness it definitely is this drink! It has Oolong, but is available as green or black tea too, it has passion fruit and two toppings in one cup. It feels like there is just everything in it which you can possible top your tea with, almost. Even the passionfruit seems to be a kind of topping in this tea, since the seeds float together with the black and white boba (panda boba!) and the nata de coco. And it is great without sugar. Not too sour and due to the sweet topping it is just amazing. I love this drink!

No. 33 Camellia Green Tea + Grass Jelly (茶花綠茶+仙草凍)

Today, I finally got to try grass jelly. That was in my list for a few days already, but somehow it didn't work out until now. When asking the clerk at the tea store whether grass jelly and camellia tea will be good friends, he told me that grass jelly has no sugar. Therefore, I chose 30% sweetness for the tea. A jelly without sugar, isn't that amazing! However, having to put sugar in the tea for extra taste is somehow a little little little disappointing. Maybe the combination with grass jelly, tea and juice would be a nice choice without additiona. sugar. I can try that.
In that first picture, my drink looks like milk tea, but today it is not. I gues, the impression comes from shaking the drink.

After some time, the grass jelly floats and the tea has his normal colour. It is actually a quite nice combination of camellia tea and grass jelly. It really tasted healthy! I mean, this kind of taste might not be liked by everybody, but I quite liked it. What makes me really happy is that camellia green tea doesn't have such flowery taste at all. But maybe I just didn't pay that much attention to it since I was really fascinated by the grass jelly.

No. 32 Sea Salt Qing Tea (海岩綠茶)

I heard about that drink from my friend Tammy who highly recommended trying the sea salt tea from 85 Café. Since I passed a store while on my search for my daily cup of tea, I finally decided to give it a try. Honestly, having salt in my tea seemed really weird. And they put milk in there as well. Tea, milk and salt. Is this going to be like Tibetan tea just without yak butter? I opted for hot and sugar free. Since the cup was a papercup, I had to wait until I came home to finally try this drink. It wasn't that bad, since the salt taste wasn't really strong. However, the milk looked a bit funny, maybe due to the salt.

No. 31 Hazelnut Milk Tea (榛果奶茶)

Today, I had a 50 Lan drink again, since I was on a trip with friends and that tea shop appeared to be the nearest choice. Since I already tried so many teas from there, it took some time to finally decide on drink. Actually, I really wanted to try some grass jelly topped milk tea this time, but since the grass jelly was out I opted for the hazelnut milk tea instead. Without sugar and hot it really was a great drink for this rainy day. And filling, too. Usually, I choose milk teas when I am hungry, because they are usually a good substitute for sweet snacks. Althouh, cookies would go very well with any milk tea, I guess.

No. 30 Shizuoka Gyokuro + Yakult (靜岡玉露養樂多)

Today I was going to have a Japanese Gyokuro with some aloe vera topping, since I assumed this kind of topic will be not too strong and will still give the green tea a chance to show its own character. However, due to my still not too good language skills, I couldn't read the Chinese characters for aloe vera out loud, so that I just pointed on it. So I thought. When I saw the tea shop clerk pouring two bottles of yakult in a cup, I figured that I might have pointed on the wrong topping. So, I got Gyokuro Yakult tea. First, I was a bit upset, since the green tea yakult didn't really seem to be my cup of tea. But gyokuro is way better than jasmine green tea and therefore, my accidental choice turned out to be a great combination.

No. 29 Kenting Iced Tea (墾丁冰茶)

Today i tried an tea, which name I knew but still didn't know what to expect. So, I just ordered the Kenting Iced Tea and got a drink having perilla and nata de coco in it. The tea itself was, maybe due to the sugar free version, rather tasteless. Furthermore, I couldn't tell what tea was used to create that drink. All in all the topping gave a taste to this beverage, but the tea itself was hidden very well.

No. 28 Calpis Blackberry Tea (可爾必思黑莓)

Today, I tried a fruit tea for the first time since being in Taiwan. With fruit tea not being real tea, but a tisane, I think it still fits into my project and therefore can be reviewed as well. The drink I had was blackberry tisane with calpis. After some recherching I found that calpis is a japanese drink similar to Yakult, having a yoghurt basis, or at least a milky flavour. Although, I got the sugar free version it was still somehow sweet, but that didn't bother me that much. All in all it was not a bad drink, but somehow boring in its flavour. I mean, it wasn't real tea, but it wasn't real juice or fruit milk either. It's a kind of neutral drink. Furthermore, it was a little strange to finally drink a fruit tisane in Taiwan, since it seems to me that it tastes quite different what I am used to in Germany. But at least I found a tea drink with fruit tisane as a basis. I haven't found herbal infusions or rooibos tisanes yet.

No. 27 Matcha Milk Tea + Red Beans + White Boba (抹茶紅豆白玉)

Today, due to my quite great hunger and my great interest in that kind of drink, I chose a matcha milk tea with red bean and white boba topping. Not only the colour combination was great, but the taste as well.

Since the tea itself was sugar free, the red beans had the great opportunity to send out their sweet flavour into that tea. And that sweet bean taste was a really yummy contrast to the typical green tea matcha flavour. Although, I am really not a big supporter of beans in beverages, this drink proved to me that beans actually do fit into milk tea. Since the bean flavour is really strong, the white boba has not a big chance to get through, though. But their white colour in combination with the red beans looks great as well. After having finished the tea, there was still a lot of topping left in my cup. And you can see how beautiful these red beans and white boba look together. And they even taste good together without yummy yummy matcha milk tea. i fell in love with this really filling tea. It is an amazing way to fill the empty after class stomach,

No. 26 Aloe Vera Perilla Oriental Beauty Tea (蘆薈小紫蘇東方美人茶)

Today I got quite a special tea, with almost everything swimming in it. Or at least quite a lot. Since I ordered the hot variant, however, I could only taste it, but couldn't see my drink. And it was quite a challenge to actually take some of the drink home, since I usually finish my tea on my way. In this picture you can see some of the tea inside the paper cup. Beside the aloe vera jelly and the perilla, I think there was some passion fruit as well, and, as you can see, some kumquats.

Arrived at my home, I poured the rest of my drink into a glass cup to see what my tea actually looked like. Unfortunately, I already drunk most of the topping so that I cannot show it here. The taste of it was great, really fruity, although I felt a little pity for the oriental beauty tea which was really surpressed by all the other ingredients. Somehow, it was just a bit too much fruit for a tea.

No. 25 Green Bean Milk Tea (綠豆沙奶茶)

Since it has been raining for two days already I haven't been out all day. But I need to drink my cup of tea, so I decided to go for a stroll and combine the bank with my tea shop. However, since I ate a lot for dinner and haven't really moved all day, I really needed some more action than just going to the bank and the next teashop and return after 10 minutes. So, I just went past my usual tea shop and headed down a street I haven't been to before. There were so many small shops and really filled places to eat. There was a shop of another tea shop chain as well. So, I stopped there and ordered a warm drink. Due to my language lack, though, my choice was quite limited and I just chose, what I could read. That was green bean milk tea. I am actually not the biggest fan of sweet beans, no matter green or red. They are beans and beans in a beverage are quite strange. However, beans constitute a traditional healthy (???) sweet, so a milk tea shouldn't be that bad. Still, I waited until I got back home, to try my ordered tea. It was not bad. And really filling. Actually, it was so filling that after drinking I could have gone on another stroll.

No. 24 Lavender Pu Erh Milk Tea + Panda Pearl (薰衣普洱奶茶 + 熊貓珍珠)

Since having tried Presotea teas I found that they have really extraordinary tea creations. My today's tea is quite special as well, since it was Lavender Pu Erh Tea with Panda Boba. Now, what is Panda Boba? Actually, it is only black boba and white boba mixed, but I think the name is chosen so well, that you actually want to buy a drink with it. Regarding the Lavender Pu Erh Tea I must say, that on the one side I am really happy to finally have found Pu Erh milk tea, on the other side I don't like lavender flavour. I'm just not into the flowery tea. However, it seems that it is not possible to only get the Pu Erh tea without the lavender, since all three drinks having Pu Erh tea also have lavender. That might be due to the fact that Presotea uses tea bags to infuse their tea. However, they do not put tea bags in the cups or alike, no, they use the espresso technique which I find truly amazing. Since I don't know how a espresso machine works or how to operate one, I can only wonder wether it would be possible to use this technique with loose tea as well.

No. 23 Honey Melon Matcha Smoothie (甜瓜抹茶冰沙)

After a yesterday's proposition of my good friend Bea, I tried Presotea today for my first time. And I chose a tea, which I haven't seen anywhere else up to now: Melon Matcha Smoothie. As a great lover of Matcha I just had to try this drink. And since it is going to be colder soon, I should try it as long as it is still hot enough. I loved this drink! Because it has Matcha, it is green, it is frozen and it has melon. So, I really think it is like the perfect drink for hot summer days. And due to the great amount of ice in it you cannot really drink it very fast. So, the drink will even last longer.

No. 22 Tangerine Green Tea (桔子綠)

After investing a lot of time translating the whole menu of 50 Lan yesterday, I felt very well prepared. So, ordering a tea I haven't had before was even easier. This was Tangerine Green Tea. It was really way too sour. I even asked the clerk, wether sugar free would be ok for that drink. But unfortunately, I couldn't really understand what she was answering. So, I tried to drink it but couldn't finish it until my home, where I had to put some sugar in it. All in all, the drink itself wasn't bad. I mean, it had real fruit juice in it, but still, it really needs some sugar to be enjoyable.

No. 21 Boba Milk Tea (波霸奶茶)

Today, I compared my small card which I use to cross out the drinks I already had at 50 Lan with the menu card lying out at the store and came to the conclusion that they differ from each other. However, I did not really figure out in which way exactly. So, I was quite confused today and just ordered something of which I didn't know the characters. I know it was milk tea, but I couldn't figure out the topping. That was until I got it. It turned out to be Boba Milk tea. On that way, I learnt that pearl tea has small tapioca starch pearls whereas boba tea has big tapioca starch pearls. But when I ordered bubble tea the last time they put big bubbles in my drinks after asking whether I'd like small or big bubbles. It was kind of upsetting having stepped back a bit on my project due to my language problems. So, I had the amazing motivation of translating the whole menu in the evening. For 3 hours! However, I now understood the structure of it and know that basicaly, there are three ways to get a black milk tea. First, milk tea, second black tea latte und third, black tea macchiato. They all end up being tea with milk, but milk tea usually uses powder while latte uses real milk and macchiato is simply foamed milk. And I found out why some of the drinks I pointed on were not possible to get sugar free. These are honey green tea and caramel milk tea. Of course, there is sugar in them. It is really fascinating how a whole new world opens up after investing so much effort.

Regarding the tea, I can only repeat, what I wrote for my first bubble tea: I love sugar free milk tea with sweet big bubbles. That is the ultimate original.

No. 20 Pudding Milk Tea (布丁奶茶)

Today, I ordered pudding milk tea. It is one of the most expensive drinks on the menu and therefore I had quite high expectations. The milk tea was sugar free, which contrasted the super sweet pudding (ready made out of a cup) a lot. While drinking this tea I honestly wondered who actually had the idea of putting pudding into their milk tea, since the pudding doesn't adopt to the milk tea surrounding at all. I mean, it is really milk tea with pieces of pudding. It is not like the ice cream black tea, where the ice cream melts into the tea. And you cannot really drink the tea together with the pudding. Either you get a strawful of pudding or just milk tea without pudding, which is quite strange due to their different sugar levels. I think it is clear, that my exitement for this drink is not that great. It isn't that bad, though. I mean, it is THE drink for hungry people, who haven't gotten used to the tapioca starch balls yet.

No. 19 Nata de Coco Four Seasons Spring Tea (椰果四季春茶)

Today, I ordered something of which I couldn't read the characters (again). To my surprise, I couldn't find that drink on my card which I use to cross out the drinks I already had. When I got my drink, I knew why I couldn't find it on my card, anymore. I already had cranberry black tea. Luckily, my classmate Alex accompanied me, so that I could ask her to drink my wrong order. So, I ordered the 4 seasons spring tea with nata de coco. Because I love nata de coco I really missed it and just wanted to have it in my drink. It turned out to be the right decision, since the sugar free tea was way to bitter. So, the nata de coco could softly lend its sweet flavour to the tea. However, they often put almost half a cup of topping so that in that case the nata de coco was stronger than the actual tea flavour.
